Cookies for Kim Jong Il

The kindergartners and I decorated cookies this week to celebrate the death of Kim Jong Il. I'm not sure how much the U.S. is spinning the story, but I haven't heard any shocking commentary from this end. I know the military has been on high alert and emergency government meetings have been held, but Lee Myung-bak (can you believe he's 70?!?) hasn't shared anything else with me. Some people are hopefully talking of reunification, but most of the kids in my classes show little to no sympathy with the North Korean population and nothing but disgust for The Dear Leader.

But the cookies weren't really for Kim Jong Il, they were for Christmas. Those interested in the legacy of Kim Jong Il can view this photo collection offering a comprehensive look at his political career. A big shout out to the amazing MARY SHIFLEY for the picture-perfect cookies sent all the way from U.S.A. My kids say, "Your mother is too kind! She is nicer than my mother." Can't argue there, I got lucky!

Isabel and Joanna - look at that sharing!

Jude and Bobby sparring off. Some might question my teaching, I say at least the knives are plastic.

Chocolate chips and sprinkles were the limits of our decorating prowess.

Serapin's face was set in a terse grimace of concentration during most of the decorating, but she managed to get a sweet smile in.

Joanna with a typical cheerful expression. She's quick as a whip and happiest doing anything music or art related.

Nathan meticulously wiping the frosting off his knife for a color swap.

Can you guess whose hands? Ding ding ding, it'sssss BOBBY!

Success!

Nathan always has the biggest grin on his face when he comes to school. Gotta love him.

This past weekend my friends and I went to see the Nutcracker at the Seoul Arts Center. We had fantastic seats and the performance was excellent. We finished the evening at a restaurant called Mad For Garlic. As you can guess, every menu item featured garlic, right down to the ice cream.

Happy Holidays!
